The tuition waivers and residency classifications document contains information on tuition waivers, residency classifications and the Running Start Program that may be applicable to students enrolling in Washington state's community and technical colleges.

Resident Category

This residency classification is available for eligible American Indian students.

Residency classifications are mandatory and colleges must charge resident tuition rates for students meeting the residency requirements.

Fee pay status: 25

Members of federally recognized tribes whose traditional tribal boundaries included portions of Washington state, or tribes granted reserved lands within Washington state, shall be coded as residents if they have been domiciled for one year prior to enrollment in one or a combination of the following states: Idaho, Oregon, Montana or Washington.

Students paying resident tuition (operating and building fees) under this classification and not domiciled in Washington for at least one year prior to enrollment, shall not be included in state enrollment counting.
